Heritage Auction Description: Sole Finest at Both Services 1876 3CN MS66+ PCGS. CAC. A total of 162,000 three cent nickels were manufactured for circulation in 1876. The top certified survivors are 16 Premium Gems, 12 at PCGS and four at NGC (3/16). This particular example has the distinction of being the only Plus-designated representative among them, laying claim to the title of sole finest 1876 three cent nickel. The CAC approval sticker affirms its undeniable quality. Each side is fully frosted and brilliant with slight powder-blue elements. The 1876 Three-Cent Nickel set a new record low for the series, with only 162,000 example struck for circulation and approximately 1,150 Proof struck for sale to collectors.  The low mintage adds a small premium to the date compared to the preceding issues. 

In general, this date comes well struck and the luster is usually frosty.  In keeping with previous dates, the usual grade is MS64, with a healthy population of MS65s available for quality-minded collectors.  At the top of the condition ladder are 4 MS66s.
