VICTORIA 1880 ‘GOTHIC HEAD’ FLORIN with beautiful original light toning. Listed in SPINK as S3900 and ESC 854 (The English Silver Coinage From 1649) Rarity S Listed as B8 – Queen Victoria has a 1mm larger head with hair plait further from the ear. Obverse depicts date in Gothic numerals (mdccclxxx) and no WW below the bust (the engraver William Wyon’s initials), with 34 border arc trefoils and the reverse showing crowned cruciform shields; rose, thistle, rose and shamrock in angles engraved by William Dyce.
