1883 Snow 1 CAC Full strike with very few marks. This is a very popular variety with the 1 sticking out of the pearls. Rick Snow S1 1883, 1 in neck. Obv. 6: (LE) The base of a 1 digit is boldly visible sticking out of the bust point and first pearl. Rev. F: Shield points just away from denticles. Olive leaf connected. Die crack from the shield to the rim at 12:30. Attributed to: Chris Pilliod This is a very bold misplaced digit variety. A few of the high grade examples known come with vivid purple toning. This is usually seen on proofs which were stored for many years in sulphur-laden tissue or envelopes. Perhaps the purple toned examples of this variety also were stored for many years in a similar way. Aside from the few high grade specimens known, this variety is quite scarce
