The 1883 No CENTS Nickel in Proof is a very popular coin because it is the first year of the new Liberty Nickel type and it is a design variety that was issued for only one year. The 1883 No Cents Nickel in Proof is slightly more common than some of the later issues, but because it is so popular, it is worth at least as much, if not more.
According to the PCGS Population Report (as of June 2011), 1,133 Proofs have been certified in all grades. This figure includes 201 Cameos and 11 Deep Cameos, although those numbers are expected to increase, since PCGS did not recognize those designations for a number of years after they began grading coins. Nonetheless, it is clear that Deep Cameo examples are the rarest of the bunch and are, in fact, the most desirable because of their impressive appearance. Of the 201 Cameos, the finest are 11 PR67CAMs; of the 11 Deep Cameos, the finest is a single PR67DCAM.
