The front of the coin has a lateral streak of green right across the middle of the coin that is about 33% of the surface area. It has beautiful yellow toning above and below it with a small spot of red at the very top of the coin. The back of the coin has no green. The back is composed of 40% gold toning which looks like shadowing behind the eagle and letters for the most part. Very unique toning on the back, not many coins with complete 2 toned look.
Coin lineage:
In 1884 former U.S. president Chester A. Arthur was preparing for a trip to New Orleans for the World Cotton Centennial Exposition. This was the world's largest cotton exchange, with over 33% of the cotton on the planet at that time. Chester was doing a very lack luster job to secure the Republican nomination at this time, spending time at the Cotton Exposition. During his travels to New Orleans he took the opportunity to visit the federal mint that was releasing the brand new Morgan dollars for the year. Chester always appreciated the fine artwork that went into the classic silver dollars of the day and would pick them up along his journey. Chester owned this very 1884-O Morgan silver dollar until 1886 when he passed away and the coin was passed down through the family one generation at a time until 2020. During 2020 Daniel Johnson was lucky enough to buy the coin from a rare coin collector who purchased it from the family. Now it rests in the greatest coin collection of all time..."The Green Monster".
