This beauty also has the CAC sticker. Provenance:. According to Shaun Bobb, owner of Mike's Coin Chest, Inc, MCC purchased this 1889-CC from a dealer (unnamed) and then sold it to a private collector (unnamed) in Florida. Later, MCC repurchased the coin and sold it to Star City. (dates unknown at this time). Legend Rare Coin Auctions was held on 1/27/2019, auctioning the Star City's CAC Morgan Collection. The following was Legend's comments at the time of auction:. "FROM THE STAR CITY CAC MORGAN COLLECTION. WOW! This coin is a near miss Prooflike example of this important KEY DATE Morgan, the rarest of the Carson City Morgan dollars. Only 350,000 were struck, making it one of the lower mintages in the entire series. The swirling cartwheel luster has an intense, blazing brilliance for the assigned grade. The fields have a distinctive glassy, semi-Prooflike flash in the fields. The sharply struck devices are fully frosted and have a neat contrast against the fields. The cheek is exceptionally clean for the grade and both sides are truly devoid of any serious marks or ticks, just some microscopic contact. Blast white with full silver brilliance, this CHOICE coin will be a centerpiece to the next great Morgan dollar set it graces. PCGS 118, NGC 98, CAC 19. The most recent example to sell in auction realized $39,950 in our September 2018 Regency Auction. Prior to that, one sold for $36,425 in March 2017. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $45,000 and we anticipate this high end looking 1889-CC dollar will see very strong bidding. This is a date that was not well represented in the GSA hoard, and is in consistently strong demand from collectors from low grade and problem coins to high quality Mint State coins as here. Bound for a wonderful Morgan Dollar set!" This Morgan's last public auction was at GC on 9/15/2019.
