We have no clue as to why this coin is not a PR65 (we make NO promises). It really is that SUPER HIGH END! Deep mirrors beam boldly from all over. The flash enlivens the toning. The mirrors are crystal clear and are super clean. When you twirl the coin, you can easily see the mirrors rolling around like liquid mercury. Both sides enjoy beautiful and totally original toning of royal blue/purple/gold/magenta colors. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck and do have some frost. There is light contrast. The eye appeal is super! Only 813 were minted. PCGS 68, NGC 65, CAC 6 (that is a shockingly low number). This is an incredible stat: NO PCGS CAC piece has ever been sold via auction (even in cameo too)! This date is a bit more UNDERrated then even we thought. Legend has not owned one since 2013. Opportunity knocks amazingly loud here!

In 1901, the Philadelphia Mint produced only 813 Proof Barber Half Dollars for sale to collectors.  This mintage was down slighty from that of the previous year, but was still average to above-average for the series.  The survival rate for this date is quite high, as over half of the mintage has been certified.  The quality of those survivors is mixed, ranging from a number of slightly impaired Proofs to some really superb examples.  In better are plentiful quantities of Choice to Gem Proofs.  Cameos are slightly scarcer than in previous years and, for some reason, Deep Cameo Proofs are extremely rare.
