CAC. Laibstain. A high-end gorgeous lustrous coin with sharp strike and nice overall color. All the features go together to explain how this coin received its lofty grade of MS 67+. One finer coin is known in MS 68 and it has been off the market for about 10 years or more. I was last aware of it being offered for sale by David Hall Rare Coins along with another MS 68 coin, a 1905-O. A tougher date in the late part of the series and they generally come well struck with strong luster. This is a date we really like and this particular coin has great character.

The 1910-S Half Dollar is near the middle of the pack in terms of overall rarity.  It is slightly tougher in Mint State than many of the more common issues, but it is on par with most of the S-Mints that surround it.  It compares favorably with the 1909-S and even the 1908-S, but it falls short of the 1907-S and the 1911-S.  Where the 1910-S excels is at the high-end, where a nice supply of MS66 examples exist.  Somewhere out there is a PCGS MS68 which has not appeared on the market (at least not at public auction) since it was graded in 1997.  The timing suggests that it is the Eliasberg coin which sold for a remarkable $14,300 so many years ago.

[The 191O-S] is far more rare than the 1909-S and the 1913-1915 S Mint issues that complete the series. It is not, however, in the same rarity class as any of the earlier S Mint issues from 1892-1908, or the 1911-S.
