On the 2nd of September 2024 and using my ELIKLIV microscope and Vantage 10X loupe, I examined this coin and describe it thusly. The Obverse shows a light mark above the 1st "1" of the date, 1 long light scratch between the 1st & 2nd star and 3 very light diagonal scratches from the 4th star and the headdress, a mark at the mid point and on the vein in the middle of the feather above the "Y" of "LIBERTY", light scarring on the cheek and on the chin, the neck does not have any noticeable marks or scratches and is clean except it shows some very light scarring. a diagonal mark in the hair to the right and below the ear. I do not see any toning, spotting, or cloudiness. The Reverse has 2 light dings below and to the right of the 2nd "T" of "TRUST", 3 small dings to the right of "IN", 6 marks between the "UNI" of "UNITED" and the right wing top, a light ding above the "E" and below the "F" of "OF", light marks below the "MER" and above the "BUS" of "PLURIBUS", a vertical mark below and to the right of the "M" of "UNUM", a light ding to the left of the 2nd "A" of "AMERICA", a mark on the bottom of the 2nd "U" of "UNUM", scarring and marks between the "CA" of "AMERICA" and under the "UNUM", 3 diagonal marks just above the left wing feather down from the "S" of "PLURIBUS", a diagonal mark on the left leg feathers just below the wing feathers and a mark just above the bottom feathers above the claw. I see no toning, spotting, or cloudiness except copper colors can be seen in the crevasses and edges of the eagle legs and lower feathers at the same distance of the 2 legs. This is a nice coin with better surfaces on the reverse. This coin is held in a PCGS Generation 6 holder used from May 2014 to October 2020.

The following diagnostics have been seen on a counterfeit 1912 Indian Head Eagle: 1) shallow depression in the field to the left of Liberty's brow; 2) oblong depression on jawline; 3) another shallow depression in the field above the eagle's tail at the lower point of an imaginary triangle created by the depression, the M of UNUM, and the final A of AMERICA; and 4) tiny depression below and left of center of the O of OF.

The 1912 is one of the more available issues of this type but it is not really "common" in any absolute sense. However, in MS-63 or lower grade, a 1912 can be found with little or no difficulty. In MS-64 and even MS-65 condition, the 1912 is available from time to time although no large quantities in either grade could be assembled. A few superb, nearly flawless quality examples of this issue are known to exist. The 1912 is almost always very sharply struck, especially on the obverse. (There is sometimes a slight weakness on the leading curve of the eagle's left wing, however). Typically the surfaces are very frosty with slight granularity that is not nearly as pronounced as on the average 1911. Lustre is generally very good, and the color is most often a medium to rich yellow gold. An occasional greenish gold or coppery gold specimen is also seen (but not often).
