On the 3rd of September 2024 and using my ELIKLIV microscope and Vantage 10X loupe, I examined this coin and describe it thusly. The Obverse shows a diagonal mark below and to the left of the chin and other light making and scoring above at the rim edge, a small ding between the rim edge and the eyes and marks on the rim edge to the left of the ding, a diagonal mark at the point of the 3rd star, 2 light dings and a light mark between stars #4 & 5 and the headdress, a diagonal mark at the mid point of the first feather above the "L" of "LIBERTY", a light vertical mark on the feather above the "B", a ding at the mid point and a mark above that on the feather above the "RT", a diagonal mark on the lower side of the 2 feathers above the "Y", a diagonal mark below the "L", a small ding in the hair below the "RT", a 2 digit mark on the nose, 3 heavier diagonal marks and other scarring on the cheek, a diagonal mark on the hair above the ear, light marks on the lower chin and jaw line, a mark and a rub at the upper neck on the jaw line, a light horizontal mark in the middle center of the neck, a short diagonal mark on the front lower point of the neck, marks on the "9" of the date. I see no toning, spotting, or cloudiness. The Reverse has a diagonal short mark above the furthest left leaves of the olive branch, a vertical mark and a rub mark below and to the right of "TRUST", a very light rub to the left of "GOD", 2 rub marks coming off the rim edge below the "U" of "UNITED", a light vertical mark between the "U" of "UNITED" and the "O" of "GOD", 3 horizontal marks & a diagonal mark between the "UNI" of "UNITED" and the right wing, a light diagonal scratch below the "ED" of "UNITED", a mark on the 1st "T" of "STATES", a light scratch above the head and moving toward the "E", a heavy horizontal mark above the "E", a vertical scratch adjacent to a vertical heavy mark under the "CA" of "AMERICA", a mark on the left foot of the 2nd "A" of "AMERICA", 2 diagonal marks and 3 horizontal dings below the 2nd "A" of "AMERICA", a diagonal mark on the neck, 2 diagonal marks on the left wing lower feathers above the left leg, a vertical mark across the left wing feathers directly above from the "S" of "DOLLARS", a mark across the feather just above the arrow feather guides, a light vertical mark to the right of the arrow ends, a small ding in the front feathers on the upper left leg, a vertical 2 digit mark on the lower feathers of the left leg. I see no toning, spotting, or cloudiness. This coin does have some heavier deeper marks than seen on earlier years in my set. This coin is held in a PCGS Generation 6 holder used from May 2014 to October 2020.

The 1913 is very similar in overall rarity to the 1910, 1912 and 1915 and it is relatively easy to find in MS-63 or lower grades. Even in MS-64, the issue is available with some regularity. Gems, although certainly rare, show up sufficiently often that obtaining one is not the extraordinarily difficult task that many issues of this series present. A small number of exceptional quality (better than MS-65) examples of this issue are known to exist, including at least two virtually perfect ones.

The 1913 is typicall very sharply struck, and the lustre ranks right up there with the very best in the series. Color varies somewhat but light to medium yellow and greenish gold are the colors most often seen. Some examples also have light rose, orange or coppery highlights. The surfaces have virtually none of the granularity of the 1910 to 1912 Philadelphia Mint issues and can be either fully frosty or somewhat satiny. Top grade examples of the 1913 are among the most attractive of the series.
