On the 4th of September 2024 and using my ELIKLIV microscope and Vantage 10X loupe, I examined this coin and describe it thusly. The Obverse shows light scarring in front of and below the chin, a light ding to the left of the mouth, a light mark to the left of the tip of the nose, 3 dings to the left of the eyes, a light scratch below the 3rd and 4th stars, a diagonal light mark to the right of star 1 & 2, a vertical mark to the left of the forehead, a diagonal mark across the 2nd feather above the "L" of "LIBERTY", A diagonal mark across the mid point of the feather above the "B", 4 small dings on the mid vein at the top of the feather above the "I", a heavy short mark at the mid point of the feather above the "B", a light diagonal mark just to the right of the eye, a light vertical mark on the nose, several heavy marks on the cheek to the right of the mouth, a diagonal long mark at the lower middle of the cheek, several marks on the lower chin, the cheek has quite a bit of scarring. I see no toning, spotting, or cloudiness. The Reverse has 2 vertical dings between the "R" of "TRUST" and the end leaves of the olive branch, light marks and scarring below and to the right of the 2nd "T" of "TRUST", several marks to the left of the "I" of "IN", a light diagonal scratch to the right of "IN", 2 marks to the right of the " NI", of "UNITED", a diagonal mark, a ding, and 2 light scratches just to the left of the right wing top, a small ding below the "E" of "STATES" and at the top rear of the head, a light diagonal mark just to the right of the head, light scarring above the "PLU" of "PLURUBUS", a light diagonal mark & a shorter one below the "S" of "PLURIBUS", a light ding below the "M" of "UNUM", light vertical marks above the left wing feathers toward the right rim, a mark on the upper back of the neck,3 parallel vertical marks on the lower neck, a strong mark across the lower chest, 2 strong vertical marks on the middle of the left wing, one that goes down to the left leg & down the line of the back of the neck, a diagonal mark on the feathers of the left wing below the "PLU" & "UNUM" a strong mark on the lower feathers of the left wing just above the tail feathers below, a vertical mark at the top of the left leg, marks on the lower part of the "AR" of "DOLLAR". I see no toning, spotting, or Cloudiness. This is a nice coin but does have a few too many large marks to be found. This coin is held in a PCGS Generation 6 holder used from May 2014 to October 2020.

David Akers (1975/88)

The 1914-D is the second most common branch mint issue after the 1910-D but it bears little or no resemblance to the 1910-D when it comes to rarity. In that respect, it is more closely associated with the 1909, 1914, and 1916-S although it is more rare than any of them in MS-64 or better condition. Virtually all known examples of this issue grade MS-63 or less, and true gems are almost never available. Kruthoffer's was by far the best I have seen and was nearly perfect.

The 1914-D is always fully frosty and very sharply struck. The surfaces have a trace of fine granularity but it is not generally as noticeable as it is on the other Denver Mint issues or even most Philadelphia Mint issues in the series. Lustre is usually good to very good and on the rarest of occasions (cf. the Duckor specimen) exceptional. Color is almost always the same, light greenish gold with rose highlights, but a very few have more orange shades.
