We cannot stress enough how rare this coin is. Do not let the pop reports fool you! This coin is a borderline GEM! The 1921-D stands among the most elusive Morgan dollars in the series with Prooflike fields. PCGS records only 46 Prooflike coins in all grades, with a single Deep Mirror Prooflike coin to supplement (5/21). The present near-Gem displays brilliant surfaces and deep reflectivity. Satiny frost on Miss Liberty and the details are sharply struck. The reverse has good dusting of frost on the eagle that complements generally strong detail, save for localized softness on several wreath leaves. For a 1921-D, this coin clearly has surprising mirrors. They are at 4″. They are real mirrors-no imagination needed. The mirrors are also remarkably clean and clear. When you twirl the coin, the mirrors look like a sheet of ice. There is moderate contrast. The eye appeal is excellent! PCGS 15, NGC 61, CAC 5. This is the lone MS64+ PL. PCGS has graded 4 coins higher. This coin last sold in auction back 07/2020 for $3,700.00. The current Collectors Universe value is $6,500.00. These are just impossible to find. Next step up will cost you well OVER $10,000.00-if you can even find one!

According to a notice in the June 1934 issue of The Numismatist (p. 416), collectors could still purchase Uncirculated 1921-D Morgan Dollars for "the face value of the coins and an amount sufficient to cover the mail charrges by first-class mail."
