1923 Peace $1 Dollar PCGS MS65 VAM IV Extra Hair in old blue holder. Although the PCGS label does not identify this variety as among the "Elite 30", Connor notes this is the most common die variety among the "Elite 30" VAM die varieties on peace dollars. Once added to our PCGS inventory, the PCGS website correctly treated it as "Elite 30" for purposes of their online competitive Elite 30 set. Purchased for $158.00 total at Daniel F Kelleher Auctions 8/7/2023. This was lot 54 in Sale 2005. Although the PCGS retail value for the VAM was $300, the greysheet value for a non-VAM was only $95, and Kelleher's presale estimate was only $60-80 (prior to 20% commission), which was unrealistic since Connor noted these typically sell between $155-220 for the VAM. Connor was prepared to bid up to $180 value for it, but won it for a hammer price of $130. After adding 20% commission, and 1.5% for shipping, the total paid for this coin was $158.00.
