1923-D Peace Dollar PCGS MS62 VAM 1E “Extra Hair” die variety. Although it is among the group of "Elite 30" die varieties on Peace Dollars, it is so uncommon (total of 24 examples in all grades) that there was no known market price history at the time of purchase yet. Then suddenly about 5 examples came up for sale all at once at a Heritage auction in Sept 2022, and this was one of two examples in MS62 for sale (the other example selling for $216 — not including shipping/handling), now setting the new official market value at PCGS. At time of purchase, the PCGS population reported only 3 examples of this VAM in MS62, and only 5 higher graded. Purchased for $223.68 total ($175 high-bid + $35 commission + $13.68 S&H) in Heritage auction 9/19/2022 for Connor's colleciton.
