Seller states: "1927 $2.50 Gold Indian Quarter Eagle PCGS MS-62." The auction began with an opening bid of $100.00 on the 18th of September 2022 @ 9:08:01 am PDT. 11 bidders made 25 bids and I bid above $601.51 @ 10:24:45 am PDT on the 21st of September 2022 and had 4 bidders make 14 bids after me, none of which would pay what I would offer until the auction ended @ 9:08 am PDT on the 25th of September 2022. On the 5th of October 2022, I inspected the coin with my Vantage 10X Loupe and describe it thusly. The Obverse has light scratches below the Indian's chin and in front of his chest, several marks & dings in front of his eyes, and a scratch from the hair bonnet front edge and down to the star in front of his eye scratches below the "TY" of "LIBERTY", marks around the 2nd star down from the "Y" of "LIBERTY". The Reverse has several scratches through the middle letters of "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and a scratch line moving up through the "E" and up toward the "N" of "UNITED" a scratch line from the 1st "T" of "STATES" and down to the Eagle's beak, a ding behind the birds head and other scratches up toward the "OF", scratch below the "AME" of "AMERICA", 2 small dings on the feathers to the left of the first "T" of "TRUST.

The 1927 is similar in overall rarity to the 1926 and can be obtained without much difficulty in MS-65 or lower condition. Gem quality specimens are available from time to time but certainly cannot be found in any great quantity. As with all the Pratt $2.5 and $5 issues, there is a dramatic drop-off in availability above MS-65 condition, and, for all practical purposes, superb quality examples, although they certainly do exist, are virtually unobtainable.Like the 1926 and the other late Philadelphia Mint issues, the 1927 is usually very well struck with very good lustre and color. The color is similar to the 1926; that is, specimens range from light rose gold to a richer greenish gold. Along with the 1926, this issue is generally the most attractive of the series in high grade.
