1934 Peace Dollar PCGS MS64 VAM-1A Obv Die Scratch. "Elite 30" rare die variety with scratch on obverse. Very rare die variety, with only 2 known examples graded higher at PCGS. This is a semi-key date Peace dollar normally worth about $250-300 in MS64, but this one has a rare die variety exhibiting a long die crack on the obverse referred to as VAM-1A, and among the "Elite 30" most desirable VAM die varieties on Peace dollars. Bargained down from $365 to $350 at eBay 8/24/2020 (made private offer), plus received 5% rebate ($17.50) in "eBay bucks", so net price $332.50. So only paid about $50 extra for the "Elite 30" VAM die variety feature . Purchased from eBay seller "eagleneststore" (Mr. Mellinger, of Clarkston WA) who was breaking up and selling his personal collection of VAM die varieties. He actually sent us a nicer one than the one originally shown in the photo at eBay (he sent us PCGS #90041206 instead of 34757593). Purchased for Connor's specialized Peace Dollar collection, traded to upgrade his prior MS64 1934 Peace Dollar example.
