The 34-P is relatively scarce in uncirculated grades in a way that is similar to the 1920s P-mint issues that preceded it. Estimates suggest more than 1,000 survivors in MS65 or better, Hundreds are known in MS66 and several dozen in the MS67 range.

The 1934 is easy to obtain in circulated grades, as all all non-variety 1934 to 1928 Buffalo nickels. In mint state condition, the 1934 is much rarer than the other Philadelphia Mint isues of the 1930s. It's rarity is more like the P Mints of the 1920s. Gems are available and they are usually very well struck with the deep frosty type luster.
