1934-D PCGS XF45 VAM 4 DD Obv Small D Top 50 Peace Dollar. Paid $202.50 at eBay auction 9/15/2021. Most bids were clustered in $150-167 range. Interestingly, the same precise coin (same PCGS serial number) had recently sold for $275 + $6.99 shipping at eBay 7/19/2021, so the seller took a loss of over $75 reselling it for $202.50. At time of purchase, the PCGS price guide value was $350 in XF45 based on old sales at Heritage, although the price has ranged as low as $202 in June 2014, so we got this one at close to it's historic low-price range. A total population of 112 examples, 14 of which in XF 45 at time of purchase. This VAM double die ("DD") variety has doubling of the spikes on lady Liberty's tiara, as well as doubling on the nose and forehead. This variety gets its name due to the "Small D" mint mark on the reverse. In contrast, there is another more common version with a "Medium D" (VAM 3 Double Die Obverse Medium D).
