Although the 1935-D Arkansas has a relatively low mintage of only 5005 coins, it is a fairly available coin in grades MS63 to MS66. Most was of the original mintage survives today and most of the survivors grade MS64 or MS65. A huge percentage of the original mintage of the 1935-D and 1935-S Arkansas half dollars were purchased directly in bulk at the time of issue by Texas coin dealer extraordinaire B. Max Mehl. The coins were marketed "Mehl style" with much puffery and enthusiasm for the few years after they were issued.
Most 1935-D Arkansas have frosty luster or varying degrees of toning. The average grade is MS63 to MS65. Circulated examples are almost unknown. The 1935-D is the most common of the three 1935 Arkansas issues in Superb MS 66 and MS67 condition, though "common" is not quite the right word. Like all Arkansas, the 1935-D is quite rare in superb MS67 condition.
