I looked this coin up in PCGS's Cert verification application on May 30th, 2014 when I began entering the coins for this registry set and discovered it is listed as a NON Full Steps coin in the PCGS database. I submitted a request for it to be updated to FS and sent pictures of both sides of the slab on May 31st.After 2 weeks of talking back and forth with my PCGS Rep I was told that the coin needed to be sent back to PCGS for validation and possibly a re-holder and new cert #. I was told there was no cost to me and I would be reimbursed for S&H. As of today (June 30th) I have not received my coin back but it has now been verified and updated to MS66FS in the PCGS Coinfacts database. According to PCGS my coin was shipped today... UPDATE July 3rd, 2014 - I have my coin back in a brand new PCGS holder with the new High Security hologram label and the CoinFacts database is now correctly showing this coin as MS66FS. I added photo's of the updated holder today, July 6th, 2014. My reimbursement for shipping & handling charges was approved and should arrive by separate mail in a few days. Thank you PCGS! This is a beautiful blast white coin on both the obverse & reverse with excellent detail and a sharp strike. Even though this issue is one of the easiest and most inexpensive of this series to obtain in high grade Full Step examples, I paid $7.95 more than the (then) current PCGS price guide listing because it was superior in eye appeal & detail to any others I looked at that fit my criteria of MS-66-FS (or better) for my set.

The 1943-D Jefferson Nickel is the most common of all the War-time "Silver" issues.  Thus, collectors have thousands of high-grade Mint State examples from which to choose, including hundreds in MS-67.  The quality of the 1943-D Nickels is excellent. In fact, this is one of the rare instances where the Full Step population exceeds that of the non-Full Steps.  The finest examples certified by PCGS (as of February 2012) include 137 MS-67 non-Full Steps and 2 MS-68 Full Steps.
