The 1969-D Lincoln cent is a tough coin to find in high Mint State grades. This year, the Mint altered the design and made Lincolns bust and legends smaller, possibly to improve the coins design and to be able to use the dies for a longer period of time, by using the smaller design.

As of 2010 there are still original rolls of 1969D Lincoln cents available. They sell for about $10 to $15 each. Most 1969-D Lincoln cents from original rolls tend to have strong vibrant luster unlike other years I have seen in the past. However, the luster is usually uneven and tends to bring out all the distractions on the coins, making it very difficult to find coins in extremely high grades.

MS65 Red: In MS65 Red they can easily be found in original rolls and even in searched through rolls as collectors usually look for MS66 exampes and higher.

MS66 Red: In MS66 Red they become more difficult to find in this grade. The coins usually have a very sharp strike both on obverse and reverse. However, as mentioned previously, this is where light scuffs and scratches tend to be noticeable. Many coins would probably qualify as high end MS66's but because of a light scratch or scuff it usually keeps them from receiving the next highest grade.

MS67 Red: In MS67 they are extremely difficult to find. The fields of the coins now have to be almost mark free and the luster has to be even throughout most of the coin without any major distractions. This is very difficult for 1969-D cents but when found in MS67 grade it is considered a condition census coin. In 2010, there are only three coins graded in MS67 Red with none being graded higher.
