PROOF PLANCHET - Coin #1 : This is one of eight 1971-D Ikes (struck on proof planchets) that were in the middle of an original bank roll from 1971- a real, authentic, bank-wrapped roll. The entire roll was submitted to PCGS by Roger Kadlac of Kadlac Coins (Orlando, FL), and 11 came back as MS65 and 9 came back as MS66! I purchased all 8 proof planchet 71-Ds graded MS65. This is coin #1. These coins are SUPER BRILLIANT. Some have a more satiny luster, while others exhibit glossy luster. I contacted Mr. Kadlac to ask about the origin of this roll. I could tell he was an honest, straightforward guy. He purchased several rolls late last year (2017) from another seller on eBay who had acquired a hoard of Ike rolls- original, "put-away" rolls from the 1970s. The hoard came from an estate sale. The seller apparently never opened the rolls to check the contents entirely. He said there were a LOT of GEM specimens to come out of that hoard. And believe me, he knows the difference between an original roll and a "made up" roll, as he calls it. The proof, to me, is that this single roll produced 11 MS65 and 9 MS66 specimens! Who in the world would manufacture a roll like this and then sell it without showing off the coins within- especially coins of this caliber? I believe these rolls were sold as truly unsearched bank rolls.

This is the first year in which the Denver Mint struck Eisenhower Dollars.
The 1971-D Eisenhower Dollar is usually well struck. Since this is the first year that it was struck, many coins were saved and still exist in uncirculated grades.
MS60 – MS63: Many coins still exist in this grade and can be located without much trouble.
MS64: In MS64 grades it is not common but still easy to locate.
MS65: In MS65 grades it becomes somewhat scarce and some searching is required but yet still obtainable without much difficulty.
MS66: In MS66 grade it becomes very challenging to locate and possibly a few thousand coins survive in this condition.
MS67: Few coins exist in this grade. There are probably less than 100 examples which would grade MS67.
