This gem is the largest copper-nickel denomination of a 4-coin series paying tribute to Indira Gandhi following her assassination and shows nice mint luster. This one-year mint-state issue in 1985 was produced without a date or mint-mark; but was produced in Bombay. Proof specimens also have no date, but have a "B" instead of a dot at the 6 o'clock position next to the rim on the obverse. Although she shared the famous name of Mahatma made famous for non-violent protest, they were not related. She was assassinated by one of her Sikh guards the year before. This coin from an uncirculated set offers clean fields and a nice strike with good copper-toning eye appeal. * Number 75 in Ron Guth's book "100 Greatest Women on Coins".
