The 1992-P Olympic Half Dollars were struck to raise funds and support athletes who were participating in the 1992 Olympic Games.Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a young female gymnast leaping in the air. In the background are eight prominent stars representing the flag of the United States of America. Above her head are the words, In God We Trust. Below her is the date 1992, the Olympics logo and the word LIBERTY. Towards the lower left are the initials WC, reflecting the initials of the designer of the obverse of the coin, William C. Cousins.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin displays a large olive branch horizontally overlaid above the Olympic torch. Arched above the design are the words United States of America. To the left of the torch are the Latin words, 'Citius Altius Fortius,' which mean, faster, higher, stronger. To the right of the torch are the words E Pluribus Unum, the P mint mark. Below the design are the words Half Dollar. Below the olive branch, are the letters S.M.B which stand for Steven Bieda, the designer of the reverse design.
Overview: Maximum authorized mintage 600,000,000. Public Law 101-406. In 1992, the Mint produced an Uncirculated and Proof version of this design.
