1997 Spain 10000 Pesetas Juan Carlos I (King and Queen) PR69DCAM { PCGS-5 }. “The King and Queen” is a 5-ounce silver behemoth that pays tribute to the third centennial of the House of Bourbon. The 73mm diameter makes this an imposing specimen well-endowed to present the many royals. On the flip side about the perimeter are nine former monarchs including Queen Isabella II appearing near 9 o’clock. Others from three centuries of the Bourbon clan are Alphonso XII and XIII, Filipe V, Luis I, Fernando VI and VII, and Carlos III and IV. Notice that Queen Isabella II is the only female monarch in this ensemble! This is one of several Spanish coins at the end of the twentieth century to include an image of “ISABEL II” as she is known in Spain; affording the opportunity to find a modern high-grade candidate for this slot. On the obverse lower center is a circular area with the optical effect of revealing “98” or a “Crown over M” depending on angle of viewing. In the photo the angle show's an overlapping image of both the "97" and the mint mint logo. It is the same crown-over-M that appears in the field to the right of the son and I’m supposing the “M” stands for Madrid and the combined logo is for the Royal Mint of Spain (Real Casa de la Monedo) in Madrid.
