[RG-058*] 1999 Palau $5 Deutsch Kamerun PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This South Pacific coin remembers an era of German influence in the region and features Germania on the reverse. This and its sister coin for German Togo are the only two modern coins featuring Germania as of the first printing of Ron Guth’s book. There is also a Taler from the nineteenth century that is fairly common. Numerous Fantasy Issues (Exonumia) are available now and continue being made, often with other national personas (e.g. Italia). This can be tough to find with a mintage of 1,000, although some continue to surface each year. Notice the coat of arms Germania holds featuring the Teutonic eagle and the elephant head. The obverse features a profile portrait of Wilhelm I. The coin pays tribute to German colonial influence in Africa that spanned from the mid-nineteenth century to WWI.
