2002 Liberia $1 Goodbye German Currency 100DM (Clara Schumann) PCGS MS69 { PCGS-5 }. With the introduction of the Euro for currency within the EU, regional money such as the Franc, Lira and yes Deutsche Mark, went the way of the Dodo Bird. This African nation commemorated this shift with the “Farewell National Currency” series of copper-nickel $1 coins for each involved European country lamenting the passing of various national denominations in favor of the Euro, inspiring this coin with Clara Schumann and many other Germans on this popular series covering German denominations from 5DM to 1,000DM. This commemorative exonumia is based on a series of similar tokens, and features the reverse of the token on the reverse, and micro-minting of Liberia, date and the denomination along the rim. Clara was the talented pianist/composer who married the famous composer, Robert Schumann. She is the subject of the commemorative colorized DM100 banknote illustrated on the obverse, which was part of a series of banknotes honoring several German artists and scientists in 1989; and reissued with additional security features in 1996. The coin features rich vibrant color in the bank note, which can often be muted.
