This is a one year Type design, as the Mint struck two different designs in 2005. It struck the 2005 Bison and the Western Waters or also referred to as the Ocean View designs. 

The 2005-D Bison Nickel was fairly easy to find in circulation. Examples in MS65 appear to be scarce with most of them probably originating from original rolls directly from the Mint. In MS66 condition they are very scarce. Anything grading higher than MS66 is considered rare as this issue was very poorly struck.
