This is the first year in which the Mint introduced Uncirculated $25 Gold Eagle's with a W mint mark.

The $25 - 2006-W Uncirculated Gold Eagles were struck in specially prepared blank planchets and polished dies giving them a Satin or Burnished type appearance. The coin has a much lower mintage than both the Mint State and Proof coins and for this reason the 2006-W $25 Gold Eagles usually bring a higher premium in the market.
