The American Bald Eagle Commemorative coins were first offered by the U.S. Mint on January 05, 2007. The Mint struck 3 different denominations for the Bald Eagle series. It struck a Clad Half Dollar, Silver Half Dollar and a $5 Gold coin. Each denomination was struck in uncirculated and proof format, providing collectors 6 different options to collect the Bald Eagle coin series.

The obverse of the $5 Uncirculated gold coin was sculpted by Phebe Hemphill and designed by Susan Gamble. The reverse was sculpted by Don Everhart.

Obverse: The obverse of the Uncirculated $5 coin shows two bald eagles standing on a tree branch. The eagle on the left has its wings extended while the eagle on the right is perched with its wings tucked in while on the branch. The coin has the words, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and the year 2008 inscribed on the obverse.

Reverse: The reverse of the coin shows the Great Seal of the United States. The design was taken from the 1903 engraved image of the great Seal of the United States.  The coin has the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE DOLLARS inscribed on the reverse.

Issue Price: $284.95 (Introductory)

Notes: There was a 100 coin per household rule in effect. After January 15, 2008, the issue price if purchased directly from the U.S. Mint was raised to $309.95 per each $5 Uncirculated coin.
