This annual Swiss commemorative of Shooting Thalers features Helvetica, the national symbol of Swiss maidenhood bearing a shield with the coat of arms for Aarau, the town and district of this year’s festival. Aarau is the capitol of the Aargau canton. This gem was one of 2,000 minted in Huguenin, the mint mark “HF” appearing to the left of the fineness on the reverse. “EIDGENÖSSISCHES” is an adjective indicating “pure Swiss” and common Swiss symbols are present in the form of the lion at her feet and the eagle on her shield. Helvetica is extending a wreath of peace denoting her intent for neutrality.
