The 2011-P Medal of Honor Gold Commemorative was officially released by the U.S. Mint on February 25, 2011. The price of the coins was set at $524.30 each.

The Medal of Honor is considered to be the highest personal decoration in different military personal. The 2011-P Medal of Honor coin was struck to commemorate the Medal of Honor Medal itself (not the coin) which has been awarded to fewer than 3,500 individuals since its inception in 1861.
