She lived during tumultuous times and endeavored to bring decorum and civility back to the White House. She strongly supported Women's Rights. She is said to have been devastated when her husband chose not to run for a third term, having thoroughly enjoyed her time in the White House. I'm guessing so, considering the years that would have preceded that time in Washington. * Number 46 in Ron Guth's book "100 Greatest Women in Coins".
