The 2013-W Reverse Proof Buffalos went on sale on August 07, 2013 with an issue price of $1,640. each. This was the first Reverse Proof format ever used to strike a Proof Gold Buffalo issued by the U.S. Mint. At the ANA show held in Chicago in 2013, the Mint decided to sell some of the coins to the public who attended the show. Coins purchased at the show qualified to receive a special label indicating "Chicago ANA' to differentiate them from other coins sold outside the show.

The coins proved to be very popular because of the new reverse proof finish. Coins with the Chicago ANA label also proved to be popular and commanded higher premiums than coins not purchased at the show.
