In the early 1950s and 1960s, there were several significant civil rights movements made in order to try and abolish discrimination based off race, color, religion, sex or national origin here in the United Sates.

This was definitely a pivotal time in American history. Then, on July 02, 1964, the U.S. Courts enacted Public Law 88-352, which outlawed any form of discrimination in the United States. Because of this Civil Rights Act of 1964, today everyone living in this country, and even other countries, has been affected by it in some way, shape or form.

To commemorate this momentous event, earlier in 2009 the U.S. Mint introduced the 2014 Civil Rights Silver Commemorative Dollar in an Uncirculated and a Proof format. The Mint offered the coins to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The authorized mintage for both the Uncirculated and Proof Dollars was set a maximum of 350,000 coins combined. The Uncirculated $1 coins currently had a regular issue price of $49.95 each, while the $1 Proofs have an issue price of $54.95 each.
