2016 Samoa 1 Tala Isabella II of Spain PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. From the "Classic Gold" series of this South Pacific island Queen Isabella II's bust appears facing left with the date recessed in an oval in front of her. This diminutive gem contains ½ gram of pure (99.99%) gold. She is the first in a line of Bourbon rulers of the Spanish Republic, and was the only Queen Regnant in the history of Spain. She became queen when she was 3 years old after her father Ferdinand VII changed the constitution to allow the reign to pass to his eldest daughter. Her legitimacy to the throne was challenged by her uncle Don Carlos. Her mother served as regent until she came of age at 13 and married her cousin Francisco de Asis. Hers was not a happy marriage, and her rule full of palace intrigue that culminated in her being deposed and going into exile at age 38 in 1868. She was succeeded by her son Alfonso.
