The Forbidden City was the imperial palace for 24 emperors that spanned the Ming and Qing dynasties. The coin depicts various aspects of the Forbidden City which is the largest palace in the world, particularly the courtyard which helps provide a real sense of size and wonder to the palace. On the front side, the coin depicts faithfully the famous buildings that are part of the palace in remarkable detail. The amber insert is most noticeable in this regard, helping to put into perspective the buildings that are depicted. The coin also features the symbol of the Republic of Palau with Neptune holding his trident and a mermaid by his side near an open treasure chest. On the reverse of the coin features the famous throne of the emperor which unlike many other cultures is actually rather spartan in nature and not nearly as ornate as perhaps the throne of England. The depiction of the throne however is quite remarkable in its detail, showing the steps in the front which allows the last emperor of China to ascend even though he was only a small child. What Makes the Forbidden City Coin So Special: Detailed Finish: The overall appearance of the coin is quite remarkable thanks to a detailed finish which is antique in nature and helps reflect the age and beauty of the Forbidden City. Amber Insert: The most striking aspect of the coin may be the unique amber insert that creates a sense that this a real work of art rather than just a coin.
