2018-W Half Eagle PR70DCAM: Breast Cancer Awareness { PCGS-4 } (Apr'2018) Mintage: tbd. This is a beautiful coin; but, it could have been so much more interesting. For some reason, the decision was made to reduce the gold content from the standard 90% to 85% with the balance mostly copper to give the coin a pinkish hue. They may have reduced the cost of making the coin (if not the price to consumers); but, they failed to achieve the artistic impression on the view. These half eagles look basically like any other. If they really wanted to create a "rose-gold" looking coin, the gold content should have been closer to 70%, and it wouldn't have hurt if they'd reduced the price of the coin either to offset any objections that they were probably most concerned about (rather that creating something unique, beautiful, and appropriate). I guess we can chalk this up to another "opportunity lost".
