[RG-53]* 2021 USA $1 Silver Peace Dollar MS 70 { PCGS-5 }. In December 1921, the new Peace Dollar was approved by Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, replacing the Morgan Dollar and marking peace between the U.S. and Germany following WWI. More than 1 million of the coins had been struck by the end of the year. The new silver dollar was designed by renowned Italian American Sculptor Anthony de Francisci (1887 - 1964) and minted until 1935. This encore rendition comes 100 years after its introduction and with a pure silver planchette improving on the 90% silver original. Anthony used his wife as the model for this art deco-like piece. Perfectly struck, this gem brings to life the full beauty of this coin not possible during its earlier 15-year life span. Individuals could buy these from the mint; but limited to 3 pieces and the total run of 200,000 sold out. This one was one of three that I purchased, and one of two that were perfect. Only mint-state specimens were struck and this one was struck better than any back in the day. A number of countries also featured Teresa de Francisci on their coins remembering this milestone in history.

In the year 2021, the U.S. Mint celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the last year that the Morgan Dollar was struck and the 100th Anniversary of the Peace Dollar first being struck in 1921. The 2021-P Peace Dollars were first offered by the U.S. Mint on August 10, 2021, the coins had an issue price of $85 each, if purchased directly from the U.S. Mint. The coins had a 200,000 maximum mintage and the coins sold out immediately, the same day that the coins went on sale.
