The United States Mint introduced a new modified design for the $50 2021-W Uncirculated Gold Eagle. The new 2021 obverse design has been slightly modified to more closely resemble the original design by Augustus Saint Gaudens.
The reverse of the 2021-W Uncirculated Gold Eagles also have a completely new reverse design. The reverse features a new highly detailed eagle, also referred to as the "Eagle Profile" version, by some collectors. This is also the first time in over 30 years that the U.S. Mint has changed the reverse design of the Gold Eagle.
The $50 2021-W Type 2 Burnished Gold Eagles were officially released by the U.S. Mint on October 07, 2021. The coins had an issue price of $2,620. each. The maximum authorized mintage was set at 9,100 coins. The 2021-W coins with a “W’ mint mark are referred to as the “Collector Version” by the United States Mint. The coins are struck in 22-karat gold. The design of the coin was created by Designer Jennie Norris and sculpted by U.S. Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon.
