2023 Niue $5 Venus de Milo Antique Silver MS70 { PCGS-5 }. This closeup extremely high relief depiction of Venus de Milo’s head and shoulders gives the impression of looking at the actual sculpture as it is being chiseled from the original marble rendered in 2 ounces of pure antique silver featuring the seal of Niue on the flipside. In this form her arms are yet to be fully formed, and yet to be detached as they are today. This is one of 500 pieces produced, all in the window following the death of QE2 and prior to the coronation of King Charles III, and so no monarch appears with the date. Venus is one of the two queens of the Louvre drawing thousands each day to visit and see this gem from antiquity, despite her armless stature. Created during the Hellenistic period around 125 BC, this most famous Greek statue was rediscovered on the island of Milos in 1820. It is believed to depict the Greek goddess Aphrodite and believed to be the work of Alexandros of Antioch.
