Charles III of Spain issued Mexican "Pillar Dollars" for a dozen years before switching to a new design in 1772 (one which conveniently carried a portrait of guess-who). The Pillar Dollar, being a coin designed for use throughout the Spanish empire, features two pillars on either side of two globes (representing the two hemispheres of the earth). The royal crown of the Spanish king sits atop both the globes and the pillars. This set is fairly easy and inexpensive to complete -- except in Mint State grades.
