Old green holder, DCAM coin. POP 1 coin, shows as PR 70 on holder, BUT, that's before they graded as DCAM coins. This coin is ACTUALLY a PROOF 70 DCAM, but, I'll leave it in this holder since it's the ONLY one in a PR 70 holder.

SECURE PLUS. From Richard Green. Lucky for me Richard really liked the bright silvery coins. He sold me this "spare" coin because his main coin was the sole MS 68 as featured in the Coin Facts area of the PCGS website. He also sold me his varieties because he didn't collect those, as well as his other "spare" toned coins. He would only use those if he couldn't find a nice bright white coin that was a strong graded coin for the grade. We had hundreds of conversations in those very short years that I got to know him. Featured in Rick Thomaska's book on Franklin and Kennedy half dollars book. PQ coin!!! Stated as an MS 67, now it's an MS 67+ coin, WELL deserved of this status!

SECURE PLUS. This coin is actually the rarer DDR 801. Pop is listed as only 1, but this is the 2nd known, but not listed DDR coin. I purchased this from a coin dealer in Salem, MA back in 2001 for $3. The coin was a free submission because PCGS was just starting the Secure Plus option and for that quarter it was the free quarterly submission. Self made, thanks for free submission. Pop Top 40/4. PCGS has made a mistake on this date. Some of these are actually SMS coins. Last sale was in Jan 06 at $2760, lot # 26411. Heritage also lists an SMS coin, 2004 Bullet Dallas Sale #278, lot # 1431. Heritage actually states it has a cameo reverse, but, PCGS hasn't acknowledged it as such, nor has PCGS removed it from the Pops. Several have been broken out and only made MS 66. Actually, the TRUE population was 6, NOT 11 back in 2003 I believe, when I researched this with Richard. Thanks again Richard. AHHH, the good old memories we shared. Should be in an MS 67+ holder, maybe next resubmission... The line under the W in we is an area that was struck through a piece of metal. The "marks" on the base of the face/neck aren't scuffs, scratches, etc. Instead, they are only breaks in the luster. The same goes for the reverse, there's a break in luster appearing as a line at the top of the eagle's shield.

Toned coins are a 1967 minor DDR. Looks like the Cherry Picker's photos, but PCGS said no. Toned coin was also a self-made $2 coin. Coin actually matches the DDR FS-801 in the CPG. Coin is back on it's way to PCGS for another look to properly attribute this coin. Darker toning makes identification difficult as the identification marks are subtle and are sometimes difficult to make out on a white coin. Keep watching for updates!

Got from a Heritage coin auction WAAAYYY back on 11/28/2013, whom says that the 13th is an unlucky number? It had some lousy dark toning on it, so I sent it to PCGS for "conversation". It worked fantastic!!! Right now, 11 years later, it still looks like brand new, and there's no discoloration or any other faults. I would HIGHLY recommend the restoration service at PCGS!!!!! The auction was Heritage's April 24-28 2013 US coin auction number #1184, Lot #2884.

SECURE PLUS. Thanks for the free submission, POP 1. Yet ANOTHER coin from the Salem "HOARD" this was a coin dealer located in Salem, MA for about $3!!! Richard told me he thought it would grade MS 68 one day, just have faith! Since I only paid $3 for it plus 1 round of grading fees I thought it did well. Broke the bank when PCGS gave away 4 free submissions, out it went. They didn't have the plus grades back then, but I know Richard would still be proud as a POP 1 MS 67+ even though it didn't make the MS 68 he thought it deserved! Too bad Richard couldn’t see it now. RIP.

1986-D 50C MS67+ PCGS #6750

Beautiful bright white coin, as nice as the 68's on PCGS Coin Facts! Another PCGS restoration success story coin. I bought this coin many years ago with a haze and was discolored . So I submitted it to PCGS an an MS 67 coin. After they waved their magic wand, the haze and discolorization was gone. After this was completed, the coin was raised from an MS 67 to a MS 67+. The coin is now a pop 9 valued at $275, the next highest is MS 68 with a POP of 8 valued at $4250.

First 03-D MS 68 graded! Sorry Richard, I’m keeping this one. This is how I met Richard Green. When he found out that I had made this coin he tried to buy it because it was a pop 1 coin. When I didn’t sell it to him, he bought two PCGS graded 2003-D Kennedy’s in both ms 68 and ms 67. When he got them he thought the ms 67 coin was just as good as the ms 68 coin, he resubmitted it to PCGS. He was rewarded with his second ms 68 coin. He sold this spare coin and that was the last of the 2003 D Kennedy’s that was graded as ms 68. Since then he and I bought/sold/traded about 100 Kennedy half dollars. Richard was not a fan of toned Kennedy’s and this is why he sold me his “ spare “ 1964-D Kennedy in ms 67 along with a few other toned Kennedys. Plus he didn't want the varieties, so he basically GAVE me all the varieties he had, some graded and some raw! He gifted me the toned 1988 D in PCGS ms 67 that’s in my current set. One of these days I hope to develop the skills/knowledge to take a photo of each coin that actually captures the true colors and appearance of the coin.
