This high-end near-Gem displays deep reflectivity in the fields beneath vivid ocean-blue and turquoise toning, with sharp detail throughout the satiny devices. Eye appeal is outstanding. Heritage 2020 February 20-23 Long Beach Expo US Coins Signature Auction - Long Beach #1312, Lot #3640: A die lump on Liberty's drapery above the left edge of the 6 is diagnostic for 1867 proof quarters. The flashy fields, squared-off rims, and pinpoint-sharp strike are a few other indications that this coin was struck with special care. It is beautifully preserved and richly toned, with a full array of rainbow colors that flash when rotated under a good light. One of 625 proofs struck. The blue flashes with greenish iridescence when examined under a light, and this handsome coin was clearly stored carefully in some favorable environment to become so perfectly toned. This kind of toning is generational and seldom found this attractive. One must also consider the outstanding quality of this coin with only one NGC PR67 graded higher.

A pretty piece with undeniable originality to the surfaces, the obverse exhibits iridescent copper-apricot toning that appears to drift toward the rim. For the more boldly toned reverse we note dominant antique copper patina with subtle cobalt blue highlights to the central devices. Bright, reflective and uncommonly well preserved for this final year issue in the proof Liberty Seated quarter series. Among the finer survivors from this mintage of 600 pieces.
