Ex Maurice Storck Collection *1828 Passing of Mírzá Muhammad Ridá, the father of the Báb. The Báb was placed in the care of His maternal uncle, Hájí Mírzá Siyyid `Alí, Khál-i-A`zam (the Most Great Uncle). He was a leading merchant of Shíráz and was the first, after the Letters of the Living, to embrace the new Cause in that city. He was one of the Seven Martyrs of Tihrán. In the household was an Ethiopian servant named Mubarak who nurtured and tutored Him throughout His later childhood and adolescence -- “the Bab, in fact, places Mubarak on the same plane as his father.” [The Ethiopian King by Nader Saiedi translated by Omid Ghaemmaghami, Baha’i Studies Review, Volume 17 p181-186]

1854 1/2C MS62BN PCGS #1230

EX Haydn Collection -- this coin honors the memory of Haydn Robarts (2001-2020), a young man whose soul flew to the next world after battling brain cancer in the bravest manner imaginable. His parents, Adam and Karyn, are also two of the most wonderful examples of human beings I've ever known. 1854 * represents the year that Bahá’u’lláh suddenly left His own family and vanished into the mountains of Kurdistan. During the first year (1853) of banishment from His homeland to Baghdad He sensed disunity rising around Him and did everything He could to prevent it, finally removing Himself completely from the company of the exiles in April 1854. "In the early days of Our arrival in this land, when We discerned the signs of impending events, We decided, ere they happened, to retire. We betook Ourselves to the wilderness, and there, separated and alone, led for two years a life of complete solitude. From Our eyes there rained tears of anguish, and in Our bleeding heart there surged an ocean of agonizing pain. Many a night We had no food for sustenance, and many a day Our body found no rest. By Him Who hath My being between His hands! notwithstanding these showers of afflictions and unceasing calamities, Our soul was wrapt in blissful joy, and Our whole being evinced an ineffable gladness. For in Our solitude We were unaware of the harm or benefit, the health or ailment, of any soul. Alone, We communed with Our spirit, oblivious of the world and all that is therein…. By the righteousness of God! Our withdrawal contemplated no return, and Our separation hoped for no reunion. The one object of Our retirement was to avoid becoming a subject of discord among the faithful, a source of disturbance unto Our companions, the means of injury to any soul, or the cause of sorrow to any heart." Bahá’u’lláh clothed himself as a dervish (an itinerant wanderer who has taken a vow of poverty and lives in austerity), and he withdrew alone to the mountain of Sar-Galu in the highlands of Kurdistan. His begging bowl during that time is preserved in the International Bahá’i Archives on God's Holy Mountain, Mount Carmel, in Haifa, Israel, the Holy Land. Believe this is actually a Slanted 5 -- a great buy from Mr John at Coin Rarities Online, who is a great guy and great teacher himself. 1856 saw Bahá’u’lláh finally return from two years of self-imposed isolation in the Kurdistan mountains of Sulaymaniyyih. "We led for a time a life of complete solitude. We sought shelter upon the summit of a remote mountain which lay at some three days’ distance from the nearest human habitation. The comforts of life were completely lacking. "The birds of the air were My companion and the beasts of the field My associate…. "From Our eyes there rained tears of anguish, and in Our bleeding heart there surged an ocean of agonizing pain. Many a night We had no food for sustenance, and many a day Our body found no rest. Like Buddha, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad before him, Bahá’u’lláh’s withdrawal into the wilderness was the prelude to a mission to reform the human condition. The article “Bahá’u’lláh’s Love” describes the meeting between Bahá’u’lláh and his son ‘Abdu’l-Bahá on Bahá’u’lláh’s return. Immediately before he arrived back in Baghdad, Bahá’u’lláh told his travelling companion that these would be his last days of peace and tranquillity on this earth. 1863 * Holy Days, Festival of Ridván * 21 April 1863, Bahá'u'lláh declared publicly for the first time His Station as God's latest Messenger, "Him Whom God shall make manifest", as foretold by the Báb in 1844, and that His Revelation would help humanity achieve that world peace and unity promised in all major world faiths. This declaration came in a garden full of roses that Bahá'u'lláh named Ridván (Paradise), April 21-May 2, twelve days that Bahá'ís now celebrate as the "King of Festivals". The garden was located on an island in the middle of the Tigris River and had to be reached by boat. This coin is symbolic of the three days in this festival that are tied to major events during the period of Bahá'u'lláh's stay in the garden: * 1st day celebrates His arrival in the garden and first public declaration of His Mission; * 9th day, the arrival of His family, who could not land until flooding that took place on the first day had receded; * 12th day, His caravan's departure towards His exile in Constantinople. These three days are Bahá'í holy days, on which work and school should be suspended -- no work or homework, instead hospitality, charity and acts of service are given to humanity. :-) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Happy to get this coin from Laura Sperber and Legend Numismatics.

1st purchase ever from Mr Rick Snow, author and authority on Flying Eagle and Indian Head Cents, really nice to talk with him. Another coin to commemorate the ascension of Bahá’u’lláh as His earthly life ended this year. His eldest son 'Abdu'l-Bahá, known amongst Bahá'is as the Perfect Exemplar, was appointed the authorized Interpreter and successor in Bahá’u’lláh's written will -- it is the first time in religious history that a Messenger of God has left a written will in His own hand, clearly delineating where continued guidance would be for the development of human spirituality and unity. In practical terms, the unity of this Faith was preserved -- there is only one Bahá'i Faith, not thousands of denominations or sects -- and thus it can, indeed, unite all humanity in peace and harmony: "unity in diversity" :-) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

1868 3CS PR63 PCGS #3718

On 12 August 1868 Ottoman troops surrounded Bahá'u'lláh’s house in Edirne, known at that time as Adrianople, on orders from the despotic Sulṭán 'Abdu'l-'Azíz, and told Him He was banished again. To where, they would not say. It was almost two weeks later, after Bahá'u'lláh and His companions had begun their journey, that they learned their destination: the prison-fortress of 'Akká, an ancient city in Ottoman Palestine that had once withstood the siege of Napoleon, known also as Acre. On 31 August 1868 Bahá'u'lláh's arrival at the penal colony was greeted by a public reading of the imperial farmán, essentially condemning the prisoners to perpetual solitary confinement, and with the hopes that they would soon die. “Know thou,” Bahá’u’lláh, wishing to emphasize the criticalness of the first nine years of His banishment to that prison-city, has written, “that upon Our arrival at this Spot, We chose to designate it as the ‘Most Great Prison.’ Though previously subjected in another land (Ṭihrán) to chains and fetters, We yet refused to call it by that name. Say: Ponder thereon, O ye endued with understanding!” (Shoghi Effendi, "God Passes By", chapter XI) This fourth exile to the Holy Land fulfilled prophecies in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim Faiths, and contrary to His captors hopes, did not end until His ascension in 1892. The transformation of the area -- and eventually the whole world -- in fulfillment of Christ's prayer "on earth as it is in heaven" had begun. This coin is from the Cody Brady Collection. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * www.bahai.org

* Ex Maurice Storck Collection Very honored to have this coin from one of the earliest ANA Lifemembers ever, who moved to the next Kingdom at age 97 in 2019. He served during WWII, earning a Purple Heart medal. He was one of only a few Americans to attend the deposed King Farouk Collection auction in 1954, along with numismatic icons Abe Kosoff and John J. Pittman, bringing home some incredible early gold and silver coins, many of which he kept more than 65 years and were not auctioned again until after his passing! 1867 Bahá'u'lláh revealed the Súriy-Mulúk (Súrih of Kings). This is described by Shoghi Effendi as ‘the most momentous Tablet revealed by Bahá'u'lláh', in which He, ‘for the first time, directed His words collectively to the entire company of the monarchs of East and West'. [God Passes By, p.171] "Lay not aside the fear of God, O kings of the earth, and beware that ye transgress not the bounds which the Almighty hath fixed … Be vigilant, that ye may not do injustice to anyone, be it to the extent of a grain of mustard seed. Tread ye the path of justice, for this, verily, is the straight path," Bahá'u'lláh asserts in a statement outlining the requirements of just leadership. Heritage describes this coin as an "attractive choice proof example of the popular No Rays design, with razor-sharp definition on the design elements and well-preserved surfaces that include lightly marked reflective fields." CAC has beaned 7 in 64, and only 10 finer. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

* 1875 'Abdu'l-Bahá writes "Secret of Divine Civilization", he is 31 years old. The "Secret of Divine Civilization" is a treatise on the establishment of a just, progressive and divinely-based government, written in Persian. The work was lithographed in Bombay in 1882 and received wide circulation in Iran. The first English translation was published in London in 1910, then Chicago in 1918, under the title "Mysterious Forces of Civilization" authored by "an Eminent Baha’i Philosopher". The currently used translation was completed by Marzieh Gail and published in 1957 under the title "The Secret of Divine Civilization", with an introduction by Horace Holley. It is addressed to the rulers and the people of Persia, but can be applied to developmental reform in any society. It is considered to be part of the authoritative religious text of the Baháʼí Faith. Among the topics discussed is the honor of an individual and a nation. "The happiness and pride of a nation consist in this, that it should shine out like the sun in the high heaven of knowledge... And the honor and distinction of the individual consist in this, that he among all the world's multitudes should become a source of social good." The text highlights the importance of a nation’s ability to learn from its history, and from other nations in the formation of its social structure, and the importance of education and altruism of the nation's individuals. Attention is also given to the reformation of academic curriculum and the methods of studying, advising that schools and universities should stay away from idle disputes and debates on subjects that are based on pure supposition which are not relevant to the current societies need, and that certain valuable subjects are neglected in the process. His counsel on this is that "the individual should, prior to engaging in the study of any subject, ask himself what its uses are and what fruit and result will derive from it. If it is a useful branch of knowledge, that is, if society will gain important benefits from it, then he should certainly pursue it with all his heart." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Beautiful toning not done justice by photos. CAC approved. In 1873 'Abdu'l-Bahá and Munirih Khanum were married. Marriage is not obligatory, but it is recommended to Bahá’ís. Marriage is defined in the Bahá’í Faith as a union between two consenting adults: a man and a woman. Abdu’l-Bahá has stated the following in this regard: "Bahá’í marriage is the commitment of the two parties one to the other, and their mutual attachment of mind and heart. Each must, however, exercise the utmost care to become thoroughly acquainted with the character of the other, that the binding covenant between them may be a tie that will endure forever. Their purpose must be this: to become loving companions and comrades and at one with each other for time and eternity… The true marriage of Bahá’ís is this, that husband and wife should be united both physically and spiritually, that they may ever improve the spiritual life of each other, and may enjoy everlasting unity throughout all the worlds of God. This is Bahá’í marriage." And: "O ye two believers in God! The Lord, peerless is He, hath made woman and man to abide with each other in the closest companionship, and to be even as a single soul. They are two helpmates, two intimate friends, who should be concerned about the welfare of each other. If they live thus, they will pass through this world with perfect contentment, bliss, and peace of heart, and become the object of divine grace and favor in the Kingdom of heaven. But if they do other than this, they will live out their lives in great bitterness, longing at every moment for death, and will be shamefaced in the heavenly realm. Strive, then, to abide, heart and soul, with each other as two doves in the nest, for this is to be blessed in both worlds." The consent of all living biological parents of those wishing to enter into marriage is also required, whether the parents are Bahá’ís or not. Bahá’u’lláh writes that, “once the couple's wish is known”, marriage is “conditioned...upon the permission of their parents”. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá explains: "As for the question regarding marriage under the Law of God: first thou must choose one who is pleasing to thee, and then the matter is subject to the consent of father and mother. Before thou makest thy choice, they have no right to interfere." To read more, visit bahai.org :-)

1813 * 1st coin purchased from Bust Half expert Sheridan Downey, representing the birth year of Mulla Husayn who was the 1st person to hear and believe the Bab's Declaration in Shiraz, Persia, 1844, the beginning of the Baha'i Faith. Mr Sheridan describes this coin: A pretty 1813 with nice surfaces and a rich gold patina. Luster befits the grade. The supply of AU 1813's, for reasons unknown, falls well short of those from 1811 and 1812. Added on the night of the 100th anniversary of 'Abdu'l-Baha's ascension.

Providential purchase from John Agre at CRO's table in the Phoenix National Money show, March 2023, my first venture to the Annual ANA extravaganza. I just happened to mention that 1863 is an important year; he just happened to say he'd bought several key Seated Liberty dollars the day before; the coin was not on display, he brought it out of it's box in the back, came up with a fair price (and one that was less than it would have been on his website), and there we have it! That Boston dealer is a good guy, which might mostly be attributed to his "calm water" better half Ms MaryAnn, but nonetheless, people benefit tremendously from knowing him. :-)

1849 * Martyrdom of Mullá Husayn * -- The night before he arrived at the Shrine of Shaykh Tabarsí, the guardian of the Shrine had a dream. He dreamt that the Imám Husayn, one of the Imáms descended from Muhammad, arrived at the Shrine with seventy-two soldiers and a large number of companions. He also dreamt that they stayed at this Shrine for some time, took part in many fights against their enemies, and won all those battles. One of the most important parts of the dream was that the Prophet of God Himself came to the Shrine and blessed the company. Later, all these things came true. When Mullá Husayn arrived at the Shrine on the next day, the guardian immediately recognized him as the Imám Husayn whom he had seen in his dream. He threw himself at Mullá Husayn's feet and kissed them lovingly. He even joined Mullá Husayn's company, and was later killed by the enemy in one of the battles. The time from the day when Mullá Husayn was first attacked by his enemies to the day of his martyrdom was one hundred and sixteen days. The number of martyrs killed during those one hundred and sixteen days was seventy-two. In four different battles, Mullá Husayn had shown such courage and power that it could have only come from God. He was thirty-six years old when he died. At the age of eighteen, he first met Siyyid Kázim. For nine years he studied under him. The other nine years of his life were spent in teaching and protecting the Faith of God against its enemies. When the Báb learned of Mullá Husayn's death, he wrote praises and prayers for him which would equal three times the length of the Qu'án. In one of His Tablets, the Báb wrote that the very dust where the body of Mullá Husayn lies buried can bring happiness to the down-hearted and healing to the sick. In the Kitáb-i-Iqán, Bahá'u'lláh pays him the highest tribute. He wrote: "But for him, God would not have been established upon the seat of His mercy, nor have ascended the throne of eternal glory!" Mullá Husayn is one of the greatest figures in the history of the Bahá'i Faith and his memory lives today and will live for hundreds of years as an inspiration and an example for all who walk in the path of God. Happy to get this coin from gold expert Mr Doug Winter, author extraordinaire -- From the Cooper Union Collection. With L, normal stars. The surfaces are clean and frosty with some orange-gold colors seen on both sides. There is a small spot on the reverse at 7:00.

1863 * April 21-May 2, Festival of Ridván * Bahá'u'lláh declared publicly for the first time His Station as God's latest Messenger, "Him Whom God shall make manifest", as foretold by the Báb in 1844 (see our 1844 collection). The Revelation of God's guidance for today would help humanity finally achieve that world peace and unity promised in all major world faiths and that every culture longs for. This declaration came in a garden full of roses that Bahá'u'lláh named Ridván (Paradise) and became twelve days that Bahá'ís now celebrate as the "King of Festivals". The garden was located on an island in the middle of the Tigris River of Baghdad and had to be reached by boat. Our $3 coin is symbolic of three days in this festival tied to major events during the period of Bahá'u'lláh's stay in the garden: * 1st day celebrates His arrival in the garden and first public declaration of His Mission; * 9th day, the arrival of His family, who could not land until flooding that took place on the first day had receded; * 12th day, His caravan's departure to His forced exile in Constantinople. These three days during the festival are holy days, on which work and school should be suspended -- no work or homework, instead hospitality, charity and acts of service are given to humanity. Do you have Bahá'i friends? Perhaps you've noticed them absent on these days! :-) www.bahai.org * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

* 1892 is the year Bahá’u’lláh passed away * CAC, Ex: The Fairmont Collection -- During 40 years of imprisonment and exile, Bahá'u'lláh brought to humanity the latest guidance from God. His shrine and surrounding gardens, located on the outskirts of Acre (‘Akka), Israel, were listed by UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2008 for their "profound spiritual meaning" -- see https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1220 The news of His ascension was instantly communicated to the Ottoman Empire's Sultan Abdu’l-Hamid in a telegram which began with the words “the Sun of Bahá has set”. The sacred remains were interred within the precincts of His residence in Bahji, just outside the city walls of Acre (‘Akka), where He had arrived in 1868 as a prisoner. It is now the holiest place of pilgrimage for members of the Bahá'i Faith, and each day Bahá'is turn toward it in prayer. All Bahá'i Houses of Worship are considered gifts to humanity and no outside donations are requested or accepted. Halfway around the world, in the US city of Chicago next to Northwestern University, this same year two plots of land were purchased for $2000 to begin construction of the 2nd Bahá'i House of Worship known as the "Mother Temple of the West." It is now a landmark historical site, named one of the 7 Wonders of Illinois. See https://www.bahai.us/bahai-temple Also in summer 1908, the Young Turk Revolution overthrew the Sultan's autocratic power and substituted therefor parliamentary government -- the complete end of the Ottoman Empire and abolishment of the Sultanate (which had existed for six centuries) was near, as forewarned by Baha'u'llah in a Tablet to Sultan Abdu’l-Aziz in 1867. In these letters, Bahá’u’lláh openly proclaimed His station as a Messenger of God. He urged the leaders to pursue justice and disarmament and exhorted them to band together into a commonwealth of nations, warning them of the dire consequences should they fail to establish peace. "Hearken, O King, to the speech of Him that speaketh the truth, Him that doth not ask thee to recompense Him with the things God hath chosen to bestow upon thee, Him Who unerringly treadeth the straight Path. He it is Who summoneth thee unto God, thy Lord, Who showeth thee the right course, the way that leadeth to true felicity, that haply thou mayest be of them with whom it shall be well … Observe, O King, with thine inmost heart and with thy whole being, the precepts of God, and walk not in the paths of the oppressor … Shouldst thou cause rivers of justice to spread their waters amongst thy subjects, God would surely aid thee with the hosts of the unseen and of the seen, and would strengthen thee in thine affairs … Overstep not the bounds of moderation, and deal justly with them that serve thee." ~ Baha’u’lláh, The Proclamation of Bahá’u’lláh, p. 47. Sultan Abdu'l-Aziz did not hearken to the message and either committed suicide or was assassinated in 1876. Subsequent Sultans continued the oppression of Baha'is until their ultimate demise of their station during World War One. One important result of the Revolution was the release of all religious prisoners -- after 55 years of exile and imprisonment, 'Abdu'l-Bahá along with the rest of Bahá'is in the Holy Land were set free. Three years later, 'Abdu'l-Bahá began His historical journeys to the West, including Europe and England multiple times, and a stay of eight months in the USA and Canada in 1912. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * https://bahai.org https://bahaullah.orgn the Faith, a first in major world religions' history.

1844 $10 XF40 PCGS #8590

EX Steve Studer Collection The 1844 $10 is one of the rarest No Motto Eagles from any mint; only 6,361 pieces defines a scarcity of survivors, and significantly, not a single 1844 Eagle was discovered among tens of thousands of gold coins in the S.S. Republic shipwreck. That low mintage begins to tell a story with good reasons for the rarity. After the Panic of 1837, the country went through some difficult years between 1838 and 1844. The unemployment rate was very high, and since there was virtually no social safety net in place, people actually starved in the USA. As a result, few gold coins were struck and even fewer were saved, therefore scattered abrasions and some marks on the portrait are not uncommon for the issue. Remember, the California Gold Rush had not yet occurred, and the issue was struck at a time when $10 was the highest gold denomination in the land. Only 40 to 50+ examples are presently known in all grades, When available, the typical 1844 ten dollar grades VF-XF, and AU coins are rare with perhaps only 10 pieces known. There are only two or three coins known in MS. Virtually all of the higher grade 1844 eagles that exist have come onto the market in the past few years. These have come from different sources, so it is unlikely that there was a hoard, and none appear to have originated overseas. Here is a well-detailed XF example of this early Philadelphia issue, showing original olive-gold patina. The auction record for Heritage June 2002 shows it sold for only $2,127.50 -- those were the days! -- and describes it thus: "The 1844 No Motto Ten is an exceptionally scarce coin with a low mintage of only 6,361 pieces, a mintage that, in this case, is a good indicator of how difficult the issue really is. Much luster is still in evidence beneath a uniform reddish patina and the most noticeable contact marks are found on Liberty's cheek and in the reverse field between the eagle's beak and the A in STATES." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

May 22-23, 1844 * Declaration of the Báb The Báb's name in English means "the Gate". His appearance fulfilled prophecies of the Quran concerning the return of the Twelfth Imam, the Báb's 19-year Mission was to announce God's new message to humanity for this Day. Similar to John the Baptist as the return of Elijah and preparing the way for Christ, the Báb was to herald the arrival of One even greater than He, Who would fulfill the expected "return" of the prophets forecast in all the major world religions. This would be Bahá'u'lláh. >> The very next day after the Báb's proclamation of a new faith, Samuel Morse sent the very first telegraph (prophesied in the Bible, communication of "lightning speed" that would unite the East and West) -- Morse's first message, "What hath God wrought?" * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * www.bahai.org

1853 * Bahá'u'lláh is released from Tehran's Siyah Chal dungeon prison, "the Black Pit", and exiled to Baghdad, the beginning of 40 years as a prisoner, never to return to His homeland again. ********* Mr Doug Winter writes: This piece is notable for its handsome amber-gold color and it shows flashes of remaining semi-PL on both sides. On its own, the reverse grades a solid AU55+. The 1853-O eagle is only marginally scarce in the AU53 to AU55 range but very few of the surviving examples are CAC quality. This is borne out by the low CAC populations. No CAC approved 1853-O eagle has sold at auction and since 2010, just three PCGS AU53's have crossed the block. CAC has approved two in this grade with 19 finer.

1902-S $10 MS64 PCGS #8751

Happy to get this coin from gold coin expert Doug Winter, also an author extraordinaire. He says the "1902-S is a generic date in the Liberty Head Eagle set but it is much harder to locate than the ultra-common 1901-S." He also says this coin "might grade MS64+ by today's standards. It has great color and is separated from Gem status by some small marks in the upper left obverse field." In the non-expert owner's opinion, the coin is made even more beautiful in the old green holder, and CAC approval shows it is indeed special. In 1902, the cornerstone was laid for the very first Baha'i House of Worship in the world, open to all, located in ʻIshqábád, then ruled by Russia, now the capital of Turkmenistan. Check out this article on PBS website for Chicago, where the second HoW was built (and first for North America) between 1903-1953: https://interactive.wttw.com/playlist/2018/08/15/bahai-temple :-)

1892 * 29 May Ascension of Bahá'u'lláh * >> Bahá'is believe Bahá'u'lláh brought to humanity the latest message from God. >> The news of His ascension was instantly communicated to the Ottoman Empire's Sultan Abdu’l-Hamid in a telegram which began with the words “the Sun of Bahá has set”. The sacred remains were interred within the precincts of His residence in Bahji, just outside the city walls of 'Akka (Israel), where He had arrived in 1868 as a prisoner. It is now the holiest place of pilgrimage for members of the Bahá'i Faith, and each day Bahá'is turn toward it in prayer. >> On the night preceding 8 May 1892, Bahá'u'lláh contracted a slight fever which, though it mounted the following day, soon after subsided. He continued to grant interviews to friends and pilgrims, but it soon became evident that He was not well. His fever returned in a more acute form than before, His general condition grew steadily worse, and complications ensued which at last culminated in His ascension on 29 May 1892, eight hours after sunset, in the 75th year of His age. >> For a full week after His passing, a vast number of mourners, rich and poor alike, tarried to grieve with the bereaved family, partaking day and night of the food that was dispensed by its members. Notables, among whom were Muslim Shi’ahs, Sunnis, Christians, Jews and Druzes, as well as poets, ulamas and government officials, all joined in lamenting the loss, and in magnifying the virtues and greatness of Bahá’u’lláh's life, character, and Revelation, many of them paying to Him their written tributes, in verse and in prose. >> His eldest son, `Abdu’l-Bahá, wrote: "The world’s great Light, once resplendent upon all mankind, hath set, to shine everlastingly from the Abhá Horizon, His Kingdom of fadeless glory, shedding splendour upon His loved ones from on high and breathing into their hearts and souls the breath of eternal life." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * www.bahai.org

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * https://bahai.org https://bahaullah.org

1908 * Very 1st Bahá'i House of Worship completed in what was then Ishqábád, Russia -- it is now the capital of Turkmenistan. The temple was opened for prayer to all people, regardless of religion. 1893 * First public mention in the USA of Bahá'u'lláh * at humanity's first-ever interfaith gathering "The World Parliament of Religions", held in conjunction with that year's World's Fair (Columbian Expo) in Chicago. A paper written by the Rev. Henry Jessup, a Christian missionary from Syria, was read by Rev. Ford. At the end of Jessup’s paper he quoted these words of Bahá’u’lláh: “That all nations should become one in faith and all men as brothers; that the bonds of affection and unity between the sons of men should be strengthened; that diversity of religions should cease and differences of race be annulled. What harm is there in this? Yet so it shall be. These fruitless strifes, these ruinous wars shall pass away, and the ‘Most Great Peace’ shall come. Do not you in Europe need this also? Let not a man glory in this, that he loves his country; let him rather glory in this, that he loves his kind.”

Another beautiful coin courtesy of Mr Sheridan Downey, a neigbor in the Bay Area and master of 17th & 18th-century half dollars! His description, written in 2022, goes like this: "With only 13 or 14 known specimens, this die state [Tompkins DS-5] barely escapes an R.7 rarity rating! Aside from the Jules Reiver specimen I've not handled an example since the Meyer VF sold for $6,750 in 2008. Until the appearance of this coin, there was but one auction offering in the past decade, a dismal looking piece graded F.12 by ANACS at $5,000 in June 2012 ... This offering features dark grey fields, lighter devices. The full, retained cuds at stars 10-12 sounded a death knell for the obverse die; they are, however, an 'Ode to Joy' for the growing number of collectors who covet early US coins with magnificent cuds." This coin helps tell the story of a special early Baha'i, Ahmad, who lived 100 years and whom Baha'u'llah wrote one of His most powerful Tablets that became a special prayer for anyone who recites it: "By God! Should one who is in affliction or grief read this Tablet with absolute sincerity, God will dispel his sadness, solve his difficulties and remove his afflictions." :-) With love to all the cool cud coin collectors out there. bahai.org

For the first time in 55 years a new dime was introduced, with Mr Barber's design finally replacing the lovely Liberty Seated! 1892 saw the highest mintage for the series, reflecting the highest point of public and collector interest. Yet still there were only 1,245 proof dimes minted, and it is highly sought-after as a type coin due to its strong quality and excellent eye appeal. This beautiful silver dime is very rare finer, with only six coins graded higher.

During 40 years of imprisonment and exile, Bahá'u'lláh brought to humanity the latest guidance from God. In 2008, Bahá'u'lláh's shrine and surrounding gardens, located on the outskirts of Acre, Israel, and toward which Bahá'is turn in prayer each day as the most holy spot on earth, were placed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites for their "profound spiritual meaning" -- you may read the article here: https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1220 :-)

His shrine and surrounding gardens, located on the outskirts of Acre, Israel, were listed by UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2008 for their "profound spiritual meaning" -- see https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1220 The news of His ascension was instantly communicated to the Ottoman Empire's Sultan Abdu’l-Hamid in a telegram which began with the words “the Sun of Bahá has set”. The sacred remains were interred within the precincts of His residence in Bahji, just outside the city walls of 'Akka where He had arrived in 1868 as a prisoner. It is now the holiest place of pilgrimage for members of the Bahá'i Faith, and each day Bahá'is turn toward it in prayer. Together, they all perfectly exemplifed Bahá’u’lláh's teaching of unity in diversity, that we all are one human family. His eldest son, `Abdu’l-Bahá, wrote: "The world’s great Light, once resplendent upon all mankind, hath set, to shine everlastingly from the Abhá Horizon, His Kingdom of fadeless glory, shedding splendour upon His loved ones from on high and breathing into their hearts and souls the breath of eternal life." * None Certified Finer Ben Franklin's motif was forced into early retirement after 1963 due to the death of President Kennedy, making the date an important one for type purposes. Non-cameo 1963 proof halves are plentiful, even Cameos can be found in the thousands, but the massive mintage of 3 million coins hides the true rarity in PR69 Deep or Ultra Cameo condition -- white-on-black, top-grade, virtually perfect examples such as this one are conditionally rare and elusive, constituting only a minuscule proportion of its numbers. This is a spectacular specimen with tremendous eye appeal, the contrast between the glassy fields and the heavily frosted devices is especially stark. Population: PCGS 21 in 69 Deep Cameo, 0 finer (4/21) The 1st Universal House of Justice of the Baha'i Faith was elected in April 1963, after the 1st World Congress of the Baha'i Faith held in Royal Albert Hall, London, exactly 100 years after Baha'u'llah's 1st public declaration of His Mission. :-) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

* 2017 celebrated the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Bahá'u'lláh * Bahá'is in almost every country and territory around the world (the Bahá'i Faith is the 2nd most widespread religion in the world, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica) marked the occasion. This passage from the Bahá’i writings announces the revelation of Bahá’u’lláh, referred to here as “the Blessed Beauty:” O peoples of the world! The Sun of Truth hath risen to illumine the whole earth, and to spiritualize the community of man. Laudable are the results and the fruits thereof, abundant the holy evidences deriving from this grace. This is mercy unalloyed and purest bounty; it is light for the world and all its peoples; it is harmony and fellowship, and love and solidarity; indeed it is compassion and unity, and the end of foreignness; it is the being at one, in complete dignity and freedom, with all on earth. The Blessed Beauty saith: ‘Ye are all the fruits of one tree, the leaves of one branch.’ Thus hath He likened this world of being to a single tree, and all its peoples to the leaves thereof, and the blossoms and fruits . . . . . For this reason must all human beings powerfully sustain one another and seek for everlasting life; and for this reason must the lovers of God in this contingent world become the mercies and the blessings sent forth by that clement King of the seen and unseen realms. Let them purify their sight and behold all humankind as leaves and blossoms and fruits of the tree of being. Let them at all times concern themselves with doing a kindly thing for one of their fellows, offering to someone love, consideration, thoughtful help. Let them see no one as their enemy, or as wishing them ill, but think of all humankind as their friends; regarding the alien as an intimate, the stranger as a companion, staying free of prejudice, drawing no lines. The Faith of the Blessed Beauty is summoning mankind to safety and love, to amity and peace; it hath raised up its tabernacle on the heights of the earth, and directeth its call to all nations. Wherefore, O ye who are God’s lovers, know ye the value of this precious Faith, obey its teachings, walk in this road that is drawn straight, and show ye this way to the people. Lift up your voices and sing out the song of the Kingdom. Spread far and wide the precepts and counsels of the loving Lord, so that this world will change into another world, and this darksome earth will be flooded with light, and the dead body of mankind will arise and live; so that every soul will ask for immortality, through the holy breaths of God. -– Abdu'l-Bahá, Selections from the Writings of Abdu’l-Bahá, p. 1.

*22-23 May 2001* Opening of Baha'i terraces on Mount Carmel>Haifa>Israel The "Arc" and Terraces on Mount Carmel, part of the World Centre of the Baha'i Faith, are dedicated. The ceremonies are broadcast live around the world. More than 3,000 Baha'is from some 170 countries attended the outdoor event on the evening of 22 May, which featured an original oratorio, performed by a symphony orchestra and choir assembled at the base of the terraces. At the height of the ceremony, the kilometer-long terraces was dramatically illuminated. The 18 terraces extend from the base to the crest of a mountain that has been considered holy throughout recorded history. The ceremonies marked the end of a 10-year, US$250 million project to complete key elements of the spiritual and administrative center of the Baha'i Faith. Two major administrative buildings, the International Teaching Centre and Centre for the Study of the Texts, were also completed on Mount Carmel during the project. On 23 May, following the concert and inauguration, indigenous performers lead a devotional prayer program, and the thousands of celebrants, many in colorful national dress, ascended the terraces for the first time. This event was also carried live by satellite. The Holy Land is home to pilgrimage sites for four major world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Baha'i Faith. Mount Carmel is known throughout the holy writings of the three older religions as "the mountain of God" -- it is perhaps more than interesting, and significant, that the youngest world religion, the Baha'is, have their world center on this mountain. In 2008 the Shrines, gardens and surrounding area of this Centre were named to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
