1861 10C MS66 PCGS #4633

CAC approved. Fortin Variety 107; R-3. Type Two Obverse (two lines above E). Original silver-gray surfaces, satiny white, and clean. A great lustrous Uber GEM with fantastic overall eye appeal (and some light die clashing). Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and well struck. None graded finer by CAC.

Based on Breen's description (page 334) I believe that this die pair was used to make the 12 "proofs" for this date. "These dies were later used (retaining initial polish) on business strikes, still later cracking" (as seen on the obverse).

1871 $1 MS64 PCGS #6966

CAC Certified. OC-6 Low; R.3. The date is re-punched, and a fine line connects the D in GOD to the eagle’s head. This beautiful and lustrous near GEM is on the cusp of a conditional rarity (only 5 coins have been certified by CAC that are numerically higher (4 in MS65 1 in MS66). The sweat drop on the bottom edge of the reverse keeps it from an uber GEM grade.
