Sometimes we collectors of Modern Commemoratives are considered to be on the fringe of the coin collecting hobby. By that,I mean that the U.S.Mint Commemorative program is not given the respect that the "collectors of real coins" seem to think that they are deserving of.Well,to each there own,I say. If one starts with the 1983 Los Angeles Olympiad Commemorative,and turns to the history books looking for the history of the Olympics,then advances thru to the 1987 Constitution coin and checks out the facts of that subject,he/she will be a very learned individual by the time that they finish reading all that is available about the First Flight of the Wright Brothers! Eisenhower,Korea,Columbus,the Bill of Rights,WW2,Vietnam,our POWs,Women Vets,the Civil War,Jackie Robinson,the tribute to our Law Enforcement Officers,Robert Kennedy,Crispus Attucks,Dolley,the American Buffalo,West Point, the Wright Brothers, and now Thomas Edison! How could anyone NOT consider this a REAL coin collection? While it may be true that our Commemoratives are not all that rare,they are US!This is our history,and I for one,throughly enjoy collecting this wonderful series!How about you?Enjoy your coins.
