The silver dollar has long held a special place in the hearts of most collectors, and Proof examples must surely be the most coveted and desirable coins in the series. Unfortunately, completing this set isn't easy, as at least four of the 17 coins fall into the VERY rare category. The Proof examples of the Bust Dollar (1801-1804) are all restrikes made sometime in the mid or late 1850s. All are extremely expensive running well into the mid six-figures. The two Gobrecht designs are likewise tough, especially the "no stars" reverse of 1839. And if that isn't enough the matte finish, high relief Peace dollar of 1922 would put a sizeable dent in most of our checkbooks as well. This is a great set, but completable only be a few of us.
