Quarter Eagle Type Set (1796-1929)

Today, this seems to be such an odd denomination. In fact, it was considered an odd denomination almost from the outset when the first quarter eagles were struck in 1796. Although there are several very rare types (the Draped Bust, No Stars and Capped Bust, Large Bust types are both one-year type coins), one can complete this set in the higher circulated grades with little problem – except monetary. Because of their popularity, all the issues prior to 1834 are snapped up by savvy collectors whenever they appear at auction or on the bourse floor. Once completed, this quirky denomination type set is an exhibition winner. Whether a beginner or longtime numismatist, this is a crowd-drawing type set. Both business strikes and Proofs are allowed in this set, but the early Proofs are extremely rare.
