The Dauntless Mission Impossible Set

关于此套币: No really, this set is impossible! The early set of Proof Capped Bust Quarters incIudes many coins that are extremely rare. The proof set includes three unique dates of quarters: the 1818, 1823/2 and 1824/2 as well as the unique 1820 Small O quarter. The 1822 25/50 Error Reverse and 1825/4/2 and 1837 are all R.8 with only two examples known. The 1837 proof is the only one certified in private hands, the same die marriage as the Smithsonian PR63. The challenge and impossibility of this set is both that few coins exist and they rarely become available on the market. Surprisingly, as of October 2021, all three of the unique date quarters are now included in this set. Luck and opportunity smiled. To my knowledge this had not been accomplished previously. The lovely quality of these early proof quarters can be mesmerizing in hand and this short set of 18 coins is now my favorite PCGS set. The famous two key coins in the set are the 1823/2 and 1827/3 original. Both keys for this set were obtained from the phenomenal collection of the late Eugene Gardner. Of note, I am not aware of any 1832 proof quarter in any museum or private collection and none have been reported. So the set might in fact be complete!!!
